What is the PRP Facial?

With PRP Facial, micro-needling is used to create thousands of microscopic channels of varying depths into the skin. When the PRP is applied over the micro-needled areas, it’s able to penetrate deeper into the underlying skin. The PRP then intensifies the natural healing mechanism within the skin by the absorption of its high concentration of growth factors.

The micro-needling with PRP of the Facial is best for patients who have baseline good skin that isn’t severely damaged, but who are also looking for overall skin rejuvenation and improvement in skin texture. The redness and scratched-looking appearance may last for 1-2 days. Once the redness resolves, the skin tightening and rejuvenation begins. Generally, with the PRP Facial, periodic touch-ups are recommended to maintain the effects of the procedure.

What areas are treated by the PRP Facial?

The PRP Facial can improve signs of aging across your face and body, including in the following areas:

The men and women who are the best candidates for the PRP Facial are those looking to improve fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in a fresher, more rested look. Those who do not need to add volume to their face are also better candidates for the PRP Facial. Many men and women are excellent candidates for the procedure. Dr. Xu would be happy to meet with you to determine if you are one of them.

When will I start to see results, and how long will the effects last?

The PRP Facial, like any other PRP treatment, shows a gradual progression of improvement over time. Some notice improvements starting at 3 weeks and continued improvement over the next 3 months. Some patients achieve desired results after one treatment, but others require more than one treatment. Although the PRP Facial and PRP can help turn back the clock, annual maintenance treatments are recommended to maintain optimal and lasting results, since it does not stop the aging process. Effects may last up to 12-18 months. For scars or stretch marks, a series of three to five treatments about four weeks apart may be necessary to achieve optimal results. The number of treatments also depends on the severity of the area to be treated.

How long will the effects last?

Effects typically last up to 12 to 18 months depending on the issues we are addressing. For some, we may suggest 3-4 sessions 4 weeks apart to address any trouble areas and then maintenance treatments yearly. We recommend that you have annual treatments to maintain your skin’s vibrant and refreshed look. Some opt to have more frequent treatments due to the results they have achieved, and there is no contraindication to having more frequent sessions.

Are there any side effects?

There is minimal risk associated with PRP treatments, since it is derived from your own blood. Common side effects that are associated with injections in general apply to the PRP Facial. These include, but are not limited to, mild redness, swelling, itching, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site. These usually are not serious and will subside after a few days.
